When is the peak time to pick a grape? Science wants to know!

In this short interview episode, we speak with University of Victoria ecologist John Volpe.

Pick of the Week: Sea Cider’s Rum Runner cider.

Wedding Episode. Plus, other stuff

The Dork Uncorked, Rod Philips, gives tips form planning the drinks at a wedding, including what kinds of beer and wine to pick and how to handle the cocktails. And, since it fits into the wedding theme, we follow up with Ryan’s anniversary picnic and the wine that went with it.

Wine and drinks discussed:

•”Single Vineyard Viento Mar Block 21″ Pinot Noir from Cono Sur (as discussed last week).
•Sheringham Distillery Seaside gin

And two picks of the week:

•Pippins Apple Cider from Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse
•Villa Teresa Organic Prosecco

Cider explosion! Plus, buying by the case

0:00 – 13:37: Spring is here and cider is about to explode as one of this year’s trends. Other “ready-to-drink” products, like hard lemonade, are also moving onto shelves. But that means this is the time of the year when, behind the scenes, heads are exploding trying to coordinate the logistics of getting products into stores. Rod explains.

13:37 – 28:25: We start by talking about Ryan visiting the big “Everything Wine” store for the first time and panicking. It leads us to buying cases of wine — a common practice in Europe that’s gaining popularity here with help from the Internet.

28:25 – 41:12: Pick of the Week! Jas de Lauzon, grenache-syrah blend, Luberon France.
